Key Sections
Click any section below to read the full details.
Authenticity
Be genuine. Our community is built on trust, and trust depends on honesty.
- Use your real identity. Do not impersonate any person, organisation, business, or authority. Do not create multiple accounts to evade a suspension or ban.
- Events must be real. Do not create fake, duplicate, or misleading event listings. Events must accurately represent the activity, location, date, and requirements.
- Products must be genuine. Do not list counterfeit, replica, or stolen goods. Product photographs must be authentic representations of the actual item for sale.
- Reviews must be honest and disclose material connections. Do not post fake, paid, or incentivized reviews, ratings, or testimonials, whether positive (about yourself) or negative (about competitors). Any incentivized review (free product, discount, payment, or other consideration) must clearly disclose the material connection in compliance with the FTC's Endorsement Guides (16 C.F.R. Part 255) and the FTC's Final Rule on fake and AI-generated reviews and testimonials (16 C.F.R. Part 465). Hosts and Sellers may not buy, sell, suppress, or condition refunds on the posting or removal of reviews.
Safety
Every person who uses the Platform — whether booking a hiking trip or buying a tent — deserves to feel safe. We take safety seriously.
- Describe your events accurately, including all material risks, physical requirements, and any activities involving heights, water, or remote locations. Do not downplay danger.
- If you are hosting high-risk activities, ensure you hold the appropriate qualifications and that all required safety equipment is in place.
- Do not organise or promote events that involve illegal activity, substance use, or behaviour that endangers participants.
- Report safety incidents to LWO immediately at [email protected]. If there is an immediate risk to life, contact emergency services (911) first. Suspected child sexual abuse material ("CSAM") or other apparent crimes against children should be reported directly to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children CyberTipline at 1-800-843-5678 or https://report.cybertip.org and to LWO. LWO is required by 18 U.S.C. § 2258A to report apparent CSAM to NCMEC and will preserve all evidence in accordance with 18 U.S.C. § 2258A(h).
- Do not share any personal information about other users without their consent. Protect the privacy of fellow community members.
Privacy Of Other Users
Do not share, post, or transmit any personal information about another User (including photographs, contact details, address, location, employer, or any other information that could be used to identify, contact, or locate the person) without that person's express consent. Do not collect or scrape personal information about other Users.
Do not use any biometric identification technology (including facial recognition or voice recognition) on photographs, audio, or video of other Users in a manner that would violate the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (740 ILCS 14/), the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act (Tex. Bus. & Com. Code § 503.001), the Washington biometric privacy statute (Wash. Rev. Code § 19.375), the FTC's enforcement positions on facial recognition, or any analogous law.
Violations of this Section 2.1 will result in immediate content removal and may result in account suspension or termination, and may expose the violating User to civil liability.
Respect And Inclusion
The outdoors is for everyone. We do not tolerate hatred, discrimination, or harassment of any kind.
- Do not post, share, or transmit content that is hateful, discriminatory, or demeaning on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, ancestry, religion (or lack thereof), sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy, parental status, disability, age, military or veteran status, citizenship or immigration status, primary language, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected under federal, state, or local law (including the categories protected by the California Unruh Civil Rights Act and the New York State Human Rights Law).
- Do not harass, bully, threaten, intimidate, or stalk any user. This includes via in-app messages, event reviews, and public comments.
- Do not use the Platform to send unsolicited commercial messages (spam), chain messages, or repeated unwanted contact.
- Treat hosts, sellers, adventurers, and LWO staff with courtesy and professionalism. Disagreements happen — handle them respectfully.
Legal Compliance
Every user is responsible for knowing and complying with the laws that apply to their activities on the Platform.
- Do not use the Platform to engage in, facilitate, or promote any activity that is unlawful under applicable federal, state, or local law.
- Do not list, sell, offer, or facilitate the sale of any prohibited product (see the Seller Agreement for the full prohibited products list).
- Do not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party. Only post content you own or have the right to use.
- Hosts must comply with all applicable permitting, licensing, and insurance requirements for the events they organize. Do not host events without required permits.
- Users must comply with all applicable age-related laws governing access to the Platform, including the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (15 U.S.C. §§ 6501–6506), the California Age-Appropriate Design Code, the Maryland Age-Appropriate Design Code, the California Protecting Our Kids from Social Media Addiction Act (SB 976), the Texas SCOPE Act (Tex. Bus. & Com. Code § 509.052), the Tennessee Protecting Children from Social Media Act, the Florida HB 3, and analogous laws.
- Sellers must comply with the INFORM Consumers Act (15 U.S.C. § 45f), the Federal Trade Commission Act, and applicable state Unfair and Deceptive Acts and Practices statutes.
- Users must comply with applicable accessibility laws, including providing reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the California Unruh Civil Rights Act.
- Do not use the Platform for money laundering, fraud, tax evasion, or any other financial crime.
Honest Commerce
Fairness and transparency are non-negotiable in our marketplace.
- Do not engage in price gouging, misleading pricing, hidden fees, or deceptive promotional claims.
- Do not manipulate search results, recommendations, or the boost system through artificial or fraudulent means.
- Sellers must dispatch orders within the timeframe stated in the Seller Agreement. Do not accept payment for products you are unable or unwilling to fulfil.
- Hosts must deliver events as described. If you need to cancel or make a material change to an event, notify all ticket holders promptly and in accordance with LWO's cancellation policy.
- Do not attempt to conduct transactions outside the Platform to avoid LWO's commission or payment processing system.
Content Standards
Content you post or share on the Platform must meet the following standards:
- Content must not be sexually explicit, obscene, or pornographic.
- Content must not depict or glorify violence, self-harm, or cruelty to animals.
- Content must not promote extremist ideologies, terrorism, or mass violence.
- Content must not contain personal identifying information about any individual without their consent ('doxing').
- Content must not spread disinformation, hoaxes, or deliberate falsehoods about events, products, LWO, or any third party.
- Photographs and videos of Events and Products must be authentic. Do not use AI-generated, synthetic, deepfake, or digitally altered images, audio, or video that materially misrepresent the reality of the event, product, or person depicted. Where AI-generated or AI-enhanced media is permitted (for example, decorative graphics that do not depict the actual event or product), the AI-generated nature of the media must be clearly disclosed. This requirement supports compliance with the FTC's Final Rule on the use of consumer reviews and testimonials (16 C.F.R. Part 465), state laws regulating AI-generated content (including Texas HB 1819 and California AB 2655 / AB 2839 on election-related deepfakes), and the FTC's enforcement positions on AI-related deception.
Environmental Responsibility
The outdoor community has a special responsibility to protect the natural environments we enjoy. We ask all users to:
- Comply with Leave No Trace principles and applicable environmental regulations at all outdoor venues;
- Not organize events in protected areas without appropriate permits and compliance with park or conservation authority rules;
- Encourage and model environmental stewardship within the LWO community.
Enforcement
LWO reserves the right to enforce these Community Guidelines in its sole discretion. Enforcement actions may include:
- Content Removal — Individual pieces of content, listings, or reviews that violate these Guidelines may be removed without prior notice.
- Warning — A formal notice to the user that their conduct or content has violated these Guidelines.
- Temporary Suspension — Temporary restriction or suspension of account privileges, pending review or compliance.
- Permanent Termination — Permanent removal from the Platform for serious, repeated, or wilful violations.
- Legal Referral — Where conduct constitutes a criminal offence or causes serious harm, LWO may refer the matter to law enforcement authorities.
LWO is not obligated to provide advance notice before taking enforcement action, particularly where immediate action is required to protect user safety or Platform integrity.
Appeal Procedure. Users whose content is removed or whose account is suspended (other than for violations involving CSAM, suspected criminal activity, or imminent safety risk) may appeal the enforcement decision by emailing [email protected] within thirty (30) days of receiving notice of the action. The appeal must include: (a) the User's name and email associated with the account; (b) the specific action being appealed; (c) the basis for the appeal, including any relevant context or correction of fact; and (d) any supporting documentation. LWO will review the appeal in good faith and respond within fifteen (15) business days. Appeal decisions are final unless the User identifies new material information not previously considered.
8.1 EU/EEA/UK Users (Defensive)
LWO does not target or knowingly accept users from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom. To the extent the EU Digital Services Act (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065) or the UK Online Safety Act 2023 would apply to any access to the Platform from those jurisdictions, these Community Guidelines and the appeals procedure above provide a substantively equivalent notice-and-action and internal-complaint-handling mechanism.
8.2 Section 230 And First Amendment Reservation
LWO's enforcement of these Community Guidelines is an exercise of the editorial discretion of an interactive computer service provider, protected by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, 47 U.S.C. § 230(c), and the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. To the extent state laws purport to limit such discretion (including Texas HB 20 (Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code Ch. 143A) and Florida SB 7072 (Fla. Stat. § 501.2041)), the applicability of those laws to platforms of LWO's size remains in flux following Moody v. NetChoice, LLC, 603 U.S. ___ (2024). LWO reserves all rights and defenses.
Reporting Violations
If you see content or behaviour that you believe violates these Community Guidelines, please report it:
- In-app: use the report button available on event listings, product pages, user profiles, and messages;
- By email: [email protected] for safety and trust issues; [email protected] for general policy violations.
LWO takes all reports seriously and will investigate in good faith. LWO is not able to guarantee the outcome of every report, but we are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful Platform for all users.
9.1 Transparency Reporting
LWO will publish an annual transparency report summarizing: (a) the number of content reports received and acted upon, by category; (b) the number of accounts suspended or terminated; (c) the number of appeals received and granted; (d) the number of law-enforcement requests received and complied with; and (e) the number of CSAM reports submitted to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children CyberTipline. The first transparency report will be published within twelve (12) months of the Last Updated date.
Updates
LWO reserves the right to update these Community Guidelines at any time. Material changes will be communicated via the Platform or by email. Your continued use of the Platform following any update constitutes acceptance of the revised Guidelines.
