Dax Swanson: Fishing lines = Peace of Mind

Waco native, Sam Houston Alum, turned NFL champion; Dax Swanson, has settled in quite comfortably with life outside of the gridlines. What one might assume was a sudden and random stumble into a newly fostering love for the outdoors, surprisingly, is anything but.

“Fishing is my comfort place, or place of peace,” says Dax Swanson.

With a convincing grin, Dax recalls many trips with his Uncle to the lake as early as 3 years old. His affinity grew watching his Uncle, a true fisherman in his own right; would enjoy fishing for sport, hobby, and quality time. This would become a meaningful mark of tradition for the family men that Dax would also carry on with his eight-year-old son Kaden.

“Anywhere is a good spot for me to fish,” says Swanson. His competitive nature is still as present as ever.

Dax’s indisputable athleticism, natural quickness, and keen eye for the ball led him to receive many football honors of recognition including collegiate superlatives honors of first team all-Southland Conference player. His senior year he would rack up 46 tackles, 14 pass breakups, and 4 interceptions, ending his collegiate career as the all-time leader in interceptions at Sam Houston State, with 14 respectably. Moreover, now he has transferred his love of footfall to the art of fishing that he uses with his son to foster patience and calmness.
